Can you believe Ray Allen is still a free agent? Only if the New York Knicks had enough money to sign to a one-year deal.
But it's not impossible to get Allen, if you're the Knicks.
How about, if the Knicks called the Miami Heat to do a sign-and-trade that'd involve Allen to New York and Andrea Bargnani to Miami, to free cap space in order for the Knicks to sign Allen.
Would the Heat help their division rival Knicks, get Allen? Probably not. But if the Heat can come to reality and know that Allen is older and probably has a year left, getting a 28-year old Andrea Bargnani, whose has an $11 million dollar expiring contract, it wouldn't be that bad of an idea for Miami.
Bargnani could be a good fit for Miami. He wasn't a good fit with New York since he and Carmelo Anthony basically played the same position. Though in Miami, with Dwyane Wade, Luol Deng and Chris Bosh, then adding Bargnani, that's not a bad team. Who knows, maybe Bargnani plays really well in Miami and they'll re-sign.
As for the Knicks, they could really use Allen. They dearly miss veterans like Jason Kidd, Rasheed Wallace and Kurt Thomas, two years ago, who were big keys to the Knicks' second seed playoff run, in the 2012-13 season.
They also miss Steve Novak. When the Knicks would be up fifth-teen points in the 3rd quarter, in a game where they had Novak, he would just drain three point shots and keep the game out of reach for the opposing team. Knicks would easily beat the bad teams with Novak in the corner.
Allen can't give you as many minutes like he use to, obviously, but he'll leave everything he's got on the court in a big game, he's the greatest three-point shooter of all-time and mostly importantly he's got championship pedigree.
But he can provide the Knicks with his leadership on the bench. Knicks don't have veteran leadership, that Derek Fisher was to Oklahoma City Thunder, or what Udonis Haslem is for the Miami Heat. The Knicks have a lot of young players for this coming season, that need some veteran guiding. How awesome would it be if Allen were to teach a young three-point specialist like Tim Hardaway Jr.
Not only for just young players -- veteran players like Carmelo Anthony, can use someone like Allen to guide him in a big playoff game, since the experienced Allen has been in so many of them and won two championships. Something Anthony needs.
Impossible for the Knicks to get Allen ... Or maybe he can come for cheap? Lol. Doubt it.
